My Experience at the 2010 NOAH Convention

As for my Asante Mariamu experience, it was powerful. The atrocities that happened to Mariamu and to so many more in East Africa are unimaginable.  I still cry when I hear the stories both new and old.  I struggle to understand how human beings can be so cruel.  On the other hand, the experience of meeting so many warm and loving people who are ready and willing to help warms my heart, and also helps me remember that far more people in this world strive to do good rather than evil.  I met people from all over the country and the world who wanted to hear the stories, then asked how they could help.  They want to help stop the slaughter, and to help people with albinism who have been hurt.  Together, I know we can make a difference.

Asante Sana or many thanks,

Linda Wood

As always, the NOAH convention was an incredible experience.  It is wonderful to be with so many people who understand the joys and challenges in raising a child with albinism.  The sessions are always very informative and I come away with new knowledge, but I must admit the best part for me is the fellowship.  We have made so many new friends over the years.  Some of these friendships will last a lifetime.

When I see my son with the friends he has made, I fast forward and imagine him sitting with these friends as a middle aged man and even as an old man.  It makes me smile and then cry.  These friendships are invaluable gifts. I would also add that as a parent of a child with albinism, not being able to pick my son out in the convention crowd is an indescribably wonderful feeling!
