A Haven for Mariamu

One of Mariamu’s dreams is to have a home.  In her home, she wants to create a gathering place where she can make and sell her knitted goods and have a small internet café.  Mariamu also wants to “pay it forward” by helping other people with albinism.  She would like to use her home as a place where she can share her skills and teach people with albinism how to operate knitting machinery, which also can help them become economically empowered.  Her vision is to make her home an embodiment of Asante Mariamu's principals: To help, educate and empower.

At the NOAH conference in July 2010, Asante Mariamu announced plans to raise the $25,000 needed to build Mariamu her home.  Our partner NGO Under the Same Sun took up the cause and has pledged to complete the job.  As a result, Asante Mariamu will work towards completing Mariamu's dream by raising the funds needed to purchase the knitting machines and other necessary supplies.

We invite you to become a partner in this exercise in entrepreneurship and empowerment by donating funds to purchase machinery, computers and supplies.  Please click here to help!
