On August 16, 2010, a man was sentenced to 17 years in prison for trying to sell a person with albinism to a witch doctor in Tanzania.   Arrested in an undercover sting, Nathan Mutei was charged with human trafficking and plead guilty for trying to sell a recent acquaintance for almost US300,000. Both men traveled from Kenya to Tanzania, where the deadly black market for body parts has led to a rash of killings in recent years.

The undercover operation is an encouraging sign that the government of Tanzania is beginning to take a serious approach to this issue. More than 70 witch doctors have been arrested, but there have only been a handful of convictions.  Several trials are now underway.
